Water temp. low to mid 50’s Slight breeze out of the NE Water clarity around 1 to 2 feet. Lake level about 4 to 5 feet low right now. Underwater hazards - - so be careful on the water. Spent 4 hrs. on the water and only managed to put three fish in the boat.
I haven’t been on this lake in over a year, so I took a friend out with me just to check things out. We threw baits for LMB and that was about it. I did drop a jigging spoon over the side a couple of times in hopes of catching a few whites, but never really got on a good school of fish. The bait fish were scattered all over the lake. As the sun began to sit, the fish started moving on up into the shallower waters. My buddy out fished me this time, he caught one small black on plastic and then a pretty decent 3lb black on a crank bait. The key to a bite was to bounce the bait off the rocks or bumping the mud bottom with a slow roll. I ended up catching a 20 lb small mouth buffalo of all things. It was quite an experience on my spinning rod with 8lb. test line that’s for sure.
Over all trip was great though. We shared plenty of our old fishing stories with each other and I’m also looking forward to taking this guy fishing with me more often. Good partner to fish with.
